Couture Shapes

I've always been a huge fan of couture. I love the sense of fantasy it brings and the playfulness that is sometimes missing from other collections. One of the things that designers like to play with is shape. From the extreme shapes seen at Valentino and the up-side-down skirt at Chanel to the much more subtle pointed shoulders at Armani Prive and everywhere in between, plays on shapes filled the Fall 08 couture runways. I, for one, adore the couture shows and playson shape make them all the more interesting (photos from nymag.com).

I really like the fantasy element of couture too. Lacroix and Dior were definate standouts for me.

I love Christian Dior. I love how he did a more wearable couture collection this this season. And I'm adding you to my links, very nice blog.

The way the models arms awkwardly poke out of the Valentino dresses makes me laugh. A lot!

The Valentino shapes are quite nice. I'm curious how they manage such structures in such apparently soft materials...

i agree with what you say about the whole shapes thing, i think the valentino collection definitely played with shapes and took some risks!
