Classic Beauty

Well, I have fallen madly in love yet again. This time, however, it's not with gorgeous dresses or amazing jackets. No, it is with makeup. Specifically the makeup from the Dolce & Gabbana runway show. It's gorgeous! It definately reminds me of classic leading ladies in old films. I want to look like this everyday!

Sick Days

I've had to take a few sick days this week, which does not look good for my bank account, as I won't be getting paid, but probably are good for my health. I had an abcess drained on Tuesday and didn't go to work Tuesday or Wednesday. I did go on Thursday, but it was tough on my wound, plus I had to go back to the doctor today, so I took today off as well. I'm pretty sure it is healing up well though.

Enough of the gross stuff! Tomarrow will be spent helping my mom at the estate/garage sale we're holding at my house. In exchange, my mom had offered to put away half of the profits for the bf and I's trip to Europe next year. So if you're in Calgary and looking to go to a sweet estate/garage sale tomarrow...

These photos are from Wednesday. The background is hazy because they were doing a controlled burn outside the city (I live fairly close to the edge).

Beautiful Shoes

So, I totally fell in love with these shoes from Erdem. So pretty. I want them so badly for spring. As is clearly apparent, I love bright colours and pretty florals, making these shoes almost perfect!

Because I love faerie tales...

The Vivienne Westwood Red Label show reminded me of faerie tales. I think it's partly the setting and partly the looks that came through it. The hats and dresses remind me of the faerie tale's heroine and some of the other looks remind me of what a modern, fashion-conscious faerie might wear. My attachment to this collection might be completely esoteric, but you have to admit the clothes are lovely!

My First Postcard!

Not my first postcard ever, but my first received from Dream Sequins' 'Postcards from my Hometown' project. This one is from Beth and it's a awesome bald eagle (I love animals)! Beth is like me and has a home town that doesn't make postcards, so yay for small towns!

New Camera

Remember how I said I was borrowing my parents camera for a while? Well, I had it in my sweater pocket when I was fishing and I gracefully fell into the river we were fishing and it killed it (my cell phone, on the other hand, was completely fine). I still feel really guilty, even though they weren't that upset because it was a complete accident and they were planning on getting a new one soon anyway. That makes me feel a bit less guilty. Anyway, I broke down today and bought a new camera. I ended up spending more money than I meant to (isn't that always the case?), but I really like the camera I got. It is a Sony CyberShot. It's actually the same camera that saleman had. I almost got a Nixon (I don't remember which model), but the lens was wonky and made weird lines on some of the pictures and it's brand new! Glad I played with it before I bought it! Here's a photo of it and hopefully I will be able to post up some new pictures soon! (Photo from getprice.com).

A new love and an old at Dennis Basso

At Dennis Basso, I fell in love with two things. The first, I've been in love with ever since I learned my seasons. The other is fairly new. The first is one of my favourite things about spring, both in the fashion and in every day life: flowers! The other is something I don't normally associate with spring, but that I fell in love with for this collection: metallicy shine. I think the reason it works for me here is because it's mixed in with softer fabrics and colours (and even florals!), making the shiny metallics less tough and more pretty. Whatever, the reason, I love these pieces! (Photos from style.com).

Spring 2010 - Barbara Tfank

More utter fashion week love: Barbara Tfank. These dresses are adorable and absolutely gorgeous. I love the retro feel and the beautiful pastel colours. Not only are they amazing, they actually encapsulate the feeling of spring. A beautiful, magical, vintage-y spring. I wish I owned every single piece! (Photos from style.com).

nuNAAT giveaway!

It may be just me, but I always feel like the week after a long weekend seems extra-long, even though it's shorter. But don't worry, I have an awesome pick-me-up in store for someone!

One element of style that I talk about here as much as I should is hair. Hair can either ruin or make a look, so it's important to take care of it. With the stress or work and school and whatever else goes on in our busy lives, your hair can take a beating, especialy with the winter months fast approaching.

That's where Brazilian company nuNAAT's creams come in. There are five different varieties to choose from:

  • nuNAAT Cream Pitanga for Thin Hair
  • nuNAAT Cream Buriti for Dyed and Discolored Hair
  • nuNAAT Cream Aloe Vera for Curly/Wavy Hair
  • nuNAAT Cream Brazil Nut for Dry Hair with Split Ends
  • nuNAAT Cream Cupuacu for Extra Dry Hair

The winner of this giveaway will be able to choose one of these five creams! The contest will close midnight Friday (MST) and is only open to U.S. readers (sorry to my dear internationals). The enter just post below with which cream you would choose. Also, you can get yourself an extra entry by posting about this on your blog or twittering about it (two extra entries if you do both). Just post the link to your blog/twitter account. Good luck!

Best Dressed of August

Sorry the best dressed is so late, but it seemed like there were more outfits than usual to sift through. The top five are all newcomers this week, as a lot of my favourites seemed to be absent (I don't think I saw a single photo of Dita Von Teese or Emma Watson). But here were the best dressed of August 2009.

1. Taylor Swift - This one was a bit of a surprise for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Taylor Swift fan, but she seemed extra stylish this week. I love her adorable school-girl look, as well as this great purple dress!

2. Maria Sharpova - Maria looked great this month! I love the shoulders of her outfits so much!

3. Ashlee Simpson - I thought Ashlee had a good month style-wise. I love her adorable blue ensemble!

4. Renee Zellweger - While hitting the talk show circuit, Renee looked lovely. I especially love her bright blue dress.

5. Fergie - I thought both of these casual outfits from Fergie were great. While I don't love her style all the time, she sometimes hits it pretty dang good!

What do you think? (Photos from celebrity-gossip.net).

David Dixon for Town Shoes

A great Canadian designer, David Dixon, has done an exclusive shoe line with retailer Town Shoes. It's another designer-retailer collaboration that I enjoy because the rsults are cute and fairly affordable (~$125 for a pair of heels). Here are my picks. Check out more here.
