Vena Cava

Hey, sorry for the delay in posting. Anyway, I'm back with another brand that I want to focus on: Vena cava. The clothes by Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai are quite lovely. As well, the name appeals to the science-nerd part of me (I am, after all, a science major), in that it's named after the largest pair of veins in your body. Science aside, I like the adorable dresses from this line, especially the white one I've shown. I'd highly recommend checking out their website, since they have lots more there. PS: I discovered the wealth of fashion knowledge at my university library today, so we'll see when I resurface from two of my greatest loves: reading and fashion.

I thought it had been a while since I did a feature on a brand I like, so here we are. Today I'm featuring numph. I like thier clothes a lot. They are bright and colourful, but not is a cheap way. I just wanted to let everyone know that they are totally nice and even sent me a thank you email for doing the feature when they stubbled across my blog. So I hope one of you has bought that bunny ring because it's much too adorable to not be worn!

... A night at the opera

You'll have to excuse my last (excited) post. Minutes after I posted it, I realized the gorgeous reference I had set up for myself. As the titles of the Queen albums go: Day at the Races, Night and the Opera. So, here we are.

Dressing up has always been a big part of going to the opera, though now I've heard it's not nearly as important, unless it's opening night. Having never actually been to the opera (my family has always prefered regular theatre) has not stopped me from planning what I will wear when I finally get the chance. Opening night at the NY Metropolitan Opera.

A selection of the sort of dress I would wear to the opera. I think that the light Burberry one would look very fresh and polished. The silvery grey Alberta Ferretti is my favourite of the group. I absolutely adore it. While wearing black to the opera can feel a bit safe, I think the details on these black dresses (Zac Posen and Temperly London) keep them from being anything but boring.

A bit of a different angle

I know I usually don't talk about anything personal, but today I can't quite help myself. I'm that excited. I had a run of good shoe shopping (and bought nothing else except a necklace that I was going to wear especially for an event but then decided on my silver jewelry instead). Anyway, within 2 days (Thursday and Friday) I bought 3 pairs of shoes (all on sale to boot and one over 75% off).
The first pair I bought were from a small boutique called Pink Sugar that's less than a block from where I work. I love this purple leather flats and they were more that 75% off because they're old stock (last fall). I love them to pieces (even the way they smell) but unfortunately in my excitement I failed to realize that's they're about a size too small (I swear they felt fine in the store). I've been wearing them anyway and trying to stretch out the leather a bit, so we'll see.
The second pair I bought were a bit of a surprise. They're from "Feet First", a mall shoe store that I've always thought of as a bit of an 'old lady store'. So imagine my surprise when I fell in love with these! I even ended up wearing them to my cousin's outdoor wedding on Saturday (since the shoes I was planning to wear ended up looking silly with my dress).

The last pair I bought are a pair I've been admiring at Browns all spring. Everytime I go in, I look at them so when they were over 50% off and in my size, I had to buy them.

Overall, it was a good couple days, though the fact that the purple ones don't fit that well is a bummer. I think the black sandals are my favourites, even though I've been keeping my eye on the pink ones all season. Let me know what you think!

A Day at the Races...

I find that a lot of the time, people (myself included) may love something a bit on the outrageous side, yet feel a bit silly or embarrassed wearing it. Not the case at the Kentucky Derby.

I have been to horse races since I was probably seven, but i definately don't remember any of the ladies being as fashionable as Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. However, this tradition of lady's hats at horse races hasn't disappeared.

Model Profile: Giedre Dukauskaite

I decided that rather than focus a model profile on an already established model that we know has got what it takes, that I would pick one of my favorite models that is less well known. Giedre Dukauskaite was born in Lithuania and signed with New York Model Management. She has walked for Marc Jacobs and Chanel and done a few editorials. Anyway, here are some photos.
