Favourites round-up

First of all, I'd like to apolegize for not posting regularily, I've been very busy. Today's post is just a collection of things I've seen this week in fashion that I love. I love the dresses by 3.1 Phillip Lim and Herve Leger. I also think the minidress by Rachel Pally is cute (although I would personally wear something under it). I still love oversized sunglasses like these Ray Ban one and I adore the contrast in the Tom Binns bracelet. (photos: net-a-porter and shopbop)

Gorgeous Vintage Jewlery

I love old-fashioned jewelry, so I figured why not go right to the source: vintage. I found a lovely collection of vintage at Carole Tanenbaum (http://www.caroletanenbaum.com/). While the prices are quite steep, there are a number of absolutely wonderful pieces and a great selection. Here are a few of my faves, ranging from circa 1940 to circa 1960 (photos from caroletanenbaum.com).

Couture Shapes

I've always been a huge fan of couture. I love the sense of fantasy it brings and the playfulness that is sometimes missing from other collections. One of the things that designers like to play with is shape. From the extreme shapes seen at Valentino and the up-side-down skirt at Chanel to the much more subtle pointed shoulders at Armani Prive and everywhere in between, plays on shapes filled the Fall 08 couture runways. I, for one, adore the couture shows and playson shape make them all the more interesting (photos from nymag.com).

Collars

I've always been fond of interesting details in clothes, it keeps them from getting boring. One of my favourite places for these interesting details to show up is in collars. These details can range in size (from the slightly oversized collar of the Oscar de la Renta jacket to the rather large, amazing collar of the Christian Dior Courture dress) and style (like the runched collar of the pink Matthew Williamson). On the whole, I think it's a great way to liven up an outfit and keep it from being boring. It doesn't have to be huge, but I think it can add a lot of interest. Advertising

I really like this Longchamp advert with Kate Moss. I absoultely love the concept and am very interested in photography right now, especially black and white photos. The photo strikes me as being classic, which I really enjoyed. What do you think? (photo from just jared)

Bandwagon Hopping

To be honest, I'm usually a tad wary about the things people rave about. I've been disappointed too many times to simply take their word for it. Such was the case with the Christian Dior Couture show. I had heard people raving about it and seen a few photos, but the full magnitude of just how lovely the collection was didn't hit me until I got a chance to go through the runway photos today. I absolutely fell in love with the collection. Being a girly-girl at heart, I was delighted by the colours and ruffles. Still, there was enough black to anchor the collection. Definately one of my favourite collections of the season!

Fun fun fun

Whoever said fashion isn't fun never met Vivienne Westwood. From models on stilts to clown-like painted faces, the show was nothing if not entertaining.
Besides to somewhat over-the-top ideas, there were also some more wearable clothes that I liked. My personal favourites are the yellow dress and the orange jacket. (phots by nymag.com)
