New Camera!

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but our internet has been acting dumb lately and today is the first day in a while that it has been working well enough for me to upload pictures.

I've been interested in photography for a long time and final decided to take the plunge and buy an SLR. I went with the Nikon D3100 and so far I really like it. On the weekend I attended a very cool vintage event called a Dress to Remember. At this event, there was a vintage and upcycled jewellery designer called Patina Design Works. Well, I absolutely fell in love with these cameo flower earrings and knew they had to come home with me. They are set into antique brass frames. What do you think?

I got a couple new things. Golden Globes

So, I'm always a little behind, but here's my picks from the Golden Globes. And the outfits I wondered about. As usual, there was a few really beautiful gowns and a few that made me shake my head. Mainly, Helena Bonham Carter. Don't get me wrong, I love her as a actress, but she honestly looks a little insane. Like she's still being Bellatrix Lestrange. The dress matched with her hair makes her look crazy and her shoes don't match. But maybe that's what she was going for.

On the flip side, I have a confession to make. I don't like Justin Bieber. I find his songs very annoying, though less annoying than his hair and the fact that they make toddler nighties with his face on them. That said, I thought he looked good at the Golden Globes. His hair looked more normal than usual and I like his vest.

Lea Michele. She looks great, but why does she look so damn spoiled. I mean, she's on a red carpet, living thousands of people's dream. So smile already.

Christmas gifts

So, with my little blogging absence, I realize I missed Christmas. My Christmas's usually aren't very fashionable, both in what we wear and what we received. My mom, sister-in-law and I all have different styles, so we're kind of hard to buy for. But I did get a couple of things.

First of all, my sister-in-law (with input from my mom) got me this cute grey purse. I like the style and it's huge, so I can fit my lunch and a book in it for work days.

Also, my mom got these gloves for my sister-in-law and I liked then. Since they were on sale, my mom got an extra pair and gave them to me. I love them, but the bf says they make me look like a biker. I wear them anyway :)

That's it other than a vest from my parents which I'm going to take back. Anyone else get anything cool for Chirstmas. My big present from my parents was a microwave and the bf and I didn't buy each other anything since we bought a giant tv instead. Have a great week!

Triumphant Return?

So, it's been a while. I apologize (like I always do) for the unannounced little break. It started with a lack of inspiration to a promotion at work to moving last weekend. Yet, here I am, back at it.

As I mentioned above, I got a promotion at work, meaning I now work in an office setting in customer service, rather than in the lab. Which is nice because it means I get to dress up more for work and all that. Also, I get to wear contacts to work, which is awesome since I hate wearing glasses (contacts are prohibited in the lab for safety reasons).

So here's what I wore to work yesterday. I need to go do a little shopping for dress pants, since I only have two pairs.

Also, I'm not really sure what was going on with my camera. The pictures looked fine on my camera, but are all funny now that I've uploaded them. I guess it doesn't like the lighting in my new house since it's a bit dim. I will have to experiment a bit.

Also, I cut and dyed my hair (I'm not sure if you can notice due to the picture quality). I'll try to post a better picture next time!

Oxford Love

For the past year, I've been in love with Oxford style shoes, but haven't had a pair. Why? Because, with feet that hover somewhere in between sizes 10 and 11, I could find a pair in my price range that fit. Finally, all that changed with an impulse, lunch hour trip to Winners, where I found this pair by Dollhouse. The quality is quite poor, they feel flimsy and I would be surprised to they make it to next July, but I've wanted a pair for so long and I just decided to go for it. What do you think?
Is it worth it to buy "disposal fashion" in a case like this or should I have held out for the possibility of a great quality pair that will last longer? (To be honest, if I find that pair, I will buy it too). Either way, here are my new shoes and a bonus picture of me in Oxford (just because it fits and I can.

It's probably too early to seriously think about spring fashion (especially because today felt delightfully like early fall), but it's never to early to pick your favourites. One of my favourite collections that I've seen so far is Rachel Antonoff's. It's also so pretty and retro and completely wearable. And I love that the models are smiling and doing things I want to do. Basically, I want my life to be like this collection. Happy, carefree and easygoing. Hi everyone! Sorry for disappearing for a bit and happy Halloween tomorrow! Halloween is one of my favourite holidays, so I'm happy. Last night was a Halloween party where I was a angel and am now sporting a bruise where two drunk people danced me into the corner of a tv stand. A good time to be sure. (PS: Maria, I love your spice girl outfit). Tomorrow is with my parents, then the night spent watching scary movies with the bf.

And now to explain the title of the post. I finally broke down and bought an iPod touch. I didn't really need it since my old nano still works, but I've been wanting one for ages, so I decided to get one. Isn't it pretty?

Grr, because I somehow accidentally deleted my best outfit photo(s). But a much bigger, very exciting yay because last night I bought a new computer! My old on was getting very slow and I was having trouble running some programs (alright, I'll admit it, I'm a closet gamer). So tonight has been spent trying to set everything up. Making this the first post from my new computer! Yay! It was a bit on the pricey side, but hopefully spending more money now will mean I can go longer before I buy my next computer. New Boots and Europe Teaser

Sorry for the delay in posting; I've been trying to get my life in order since getting back from my trip. Four weeks is a long time! But I think things have finally calmed down and are back to (mostly) normal.

Today was a bit stressful at work and I got pretty stressed over some minor personal stuff (don't worry, nothing major) and I ended up working almost an hour of overtime since there was a major techinical difficulty right before I was off work.

Also, yesterday was my birthday, so today was my first full day of being 22. I feel like I should have my life planned out by now, but somehow I still don't. Maybe this year I'll figure things out. The bf took me out for a fancy steak dinner which was very nice and on the weekend my parents bought me a new pair of jeans (they're for riding though, so don't expect to see them on the blog). Although, this year of my life started off quietly, but very happily.

I waited for my return to show you these boots I got back in July (crazy sales on boots in the middle of summer). Sometimes I worry that they look too much like Uggs (not a fan), but I love the pretty little cutouts (I don't think you'll be able to see them in the photos) and they boy working at Aldo told me they were cute.

Hope things are going well for everyone and I'll try to catch up on everyone's blog soon!

Missing the Weekend

I'm a bit bummed today because I have to work this weekend. While my bf and my friends will be having fun and probably staying up late, I have to be at work for 9 both Saturday and Sunday (and 8 on Monday). Oh well, I get Wednesday off and then next weekend will be the last weekend before I leave for my trip!!

Here's what I wore on Tuesday. Sorry for the gross changing room setting, but I was also taking some pictures of what I was trying on to see if I wanted to go back later and buy it (I didn't) and I figured why not take a snap of what I was actually wearing.

Bad Blogging Habits

A big apology for being MIA for so long. It's no excuse, but I've been pretty distracted lately. But this time it's by something good! The bf and I are heading off to Europe for three and a half weeks this September. I'm so excited it's crazy! I've never been out of North America and I haven't been on a plane since I was 11 (that's 10 years). So hopefully you'll forgive me for being such a bad blogger. However, I've resolved to be active until I depart. I'll be gone for most of September, so don't expect much posting (though there's always a small chance).

Did I mention that we'll be backpacking? This is my new baby, a 50L expedition pack. Isn't it adorable?!

Anyways, I also went camping for August long weekend and here are some pictures from that trip. I hope you enjoy them (and yes, I love flowers). And sorry for the lack of fashion on this one. But mountain views, Indian Paintbrush and Dogwood flowers will have to suffice. Oh, and a squirrel eating a nut!

Lately, denim on denim looks have been gaining in popularity. I never really thought I would try out the trend until I found this shirt. I totally fell in love with it, showed my mom, who also fell in love with it, then I knew I had to get it. I had to wait a while to try it out though, because earlier in July is the Calgary Stampede and I didn't want to look like I was trying to dress up like a cowgirl (like many people do, to the mild annoyance of those who's actually chased cows on horseback etc).

So I decided today was the day. I love the cut-out shoulders and the dark wash. I thought since the look was rather dark for me, I'd pair it with my bright orange shoes from H&M. Let me know what you think!

Sunshine is fleeting

It feels like sunshine is very fleeting these days. We get a couple days of sun, then a bunch of rain, then a half sunny day, then more rain! Today it poured and hailed and there were even tornado watches near my mom's house! Yikes! I had to call her from work to make sure her and my nieces were alright!

I took Thursday and Friday off to make it a long weekend (I originally had plans, but they fell through) and spent it hanging out with my parents. Two of my nieces unexpected came out from Manitoba, so the second part of the weekend was spent playing with them. Yesterday we went to Spruce Meadows to watch the show jumping (my favourite sport), which was fun and we didn't even get rained on. I'm such a huge fan of summer, I wish it would never end (except then when would I wear my boots?). I've done a little shopping lately, so here is one of my purchases: a tie-dye tank from Gap. I really love the colour, but I was lazy and just tried it on over the top I was wearing, so it's a bit lower than I expected (hence the tank underneath). If I could go back, I would get it a size smaller. That said, I love it and I also got one in green. I had to wear pant to work, but I'm excited to wear this with shorts. So cute and comfy!

Etsy Finds

I've saving up my spending money to use at Etsy, since I'm feeling much more like buying handmade than just going to the mall. Something about helping the up-and-comers. Anyway, here are the things I love right now. All photos are from the seller's shop on etsy.
Jellyfish t-shirt: I studied biology (ecology to be specific) in university, so I have a huge soft spot for nature (don't get me going on how I love animals and plants more than people). This t-shirt from nonfictiontees is absolutely perfect for me. On my want list for sure!

Sweet Tease dres s: This dress from fashionloft is so pretty! I love the pattern and the design is gorgeous! Too bad it's not in my size.

English Rose Ruffle dress: This dress from Lirola is so pretty! I want to wear it everywhere, all summer long! I might have to break my piggy bank for this one, but I'm thinking it might be worth it. What do you think?

YMI jeans review

Recently, YMI jeans approached me to do a review on a pair of their jeans. I love jeans and they're perfect for my job, so I quickly agreed. After perusing their website, I finally decided on the Belted Skinnies. When I they arrived, I was excited to test them out! Overall, I was impressed. The fit was good; they had a bit of stretch so they hugged curves nicely, but not so much that they continually fall off. Also a big consideration for me was the length. I'm on the tall side (5'8") and too-short pants are a pet peeve of mine, so the places I get my pants are a bit limited. However, these came in a 33" inseam, which was prefect! The colour was great and goes with everything and they even came with a belt! Added value! The only thing I didn't love was that the stitching on the back waist was a little itchy, but it only bothered me for the first few minutes I was wearing them. Overall, I like these jeans a lot and would buy them (especially because they have such a reasonable price of $38).

It’s obvious from your blog that you absolutely love high fashion, but what do you love about denim?

I love denim because it's easy, practical and chic. Jeans look great with pretty much everything and will stand up to whatever situations you find yourself in! Plus I work in a laboratory, so I need my legs covered, meaning lots of jeans for me!

What musician or band is dominating your playlist right now?

Queen and the White Stripes are my all time favourite bands, but lately I've been really into Vampire Weekend.

I cannot live without cute flats! I love anything with adorable patterns, especially the Eleanor Keds.

Mid-week Off Day

I prefer to have weekends off, since my boyfriend does and we can hang out (and my parents do, so I can go visit), but once in a while it's nice to have a week day to yourself. I didn't work yesterday because I had to work last weekend, and I really enjoyed just hanging out by myself. I went shopping, bought my dad his father's day gift and my mom her birthday present. Unfortunately, it was storming and at one point the wind was so strong it blew my umbrella inside out and caused me to spill hot chocolate all down the front of my new coat. That's right, I didn't just shop for others, I spoiled myself a bit as well with new shoes, a new bag, a new coat, some pjs and 4 new pairs of tights. Everything was on sale, so lucky me! The new shoes and bag were from Payless (this is honestly the first time I've bought anything there) and the rest is from Joe Fresh (I love Superstore! You can buy groceries and cute clothes!). Here's me yesterday when it stopped raining long enough for me to snap some outfit pics. Don't worry, the car was off when I took the one of my shoes!

Fashion Show

As some of you may know, I've been in a fashion design class for the past few months, learning the basics of draping and drafting and pattern design. As a year-end event, we did a fashion show to let friends and family check out of designs. Not too many of the students stuck it out to the end (I think it was a lot harder than most of them thought), but the four of us that did show had a lot of fun. I only finished one thing, but here's the dress I designed and made. Also, here's the rest of the class in some of thier creations.

Zero + Maria Cornejo is my favourite collection thus far of resort 2011. I love the patterns; I love the colours; I love the draping; I love it all. I wish it would magically get lost in my closet! (Photos from style.com).

Alexander Wang Resort 2011

Crop tops, leather shorts and studded-bottom bags. What more did you expect from Alexander Wang? While I can't say I'm completely on the Wang bandwagon, I've always liked some pieces from each of his collections. In this resort collection, there was some gorgeous draping. Despite the presence of leather and coats, the collection felt light and 'resort'.What do you think? (Photos from style.com)

So I'm a little confused by the crazy weather we've been having here. This picture was taken out my parents' window yesterday. It was crazy weather; snowing all day! It's nearly June! I guess that's what makes living in Alberta interesting!

Also, my parents were in Great Falls last weekend and my mom got me a couple new purses I'll show tomarrow. I love presents and my mom said she couldn't decide what colour to get me, so she got both.

It was warmer today and I finally got around to taking an outfit photo. SOrry for the crappy quality, but I was feeling lazy.

Burberry Prorsum Resort 2011

First of all, I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend (I'm not sure which countries had a long weekend, but here in Canada we celebrated Victoria Day on Monday). Mine was good for the most part, with horseback riding, visiting my brother who I haven't seen in months and hanging out with friends. Unfortunately, it ended unpleasantly with a trip to the emergeny room (my bf broke his foot playing frisbee). Hope everyone's weekend was lovely (and perhaps a bit less eventful than mine).

Second, I wanted to talk about the Burberry Prorsum resort 2011 collection. I'm a big fan of Burberry Prorsum (what can I say, I love trenches). There were some absolutely gorgeous pieces shown in the resort collection, including dresses, tops and coats. However, my only complaint was that it didn't feel very 'resort' to me. Resort is something I feel should be perfect for wearing on holiday, but these pieces would feel more an home in my fall wardrobe. What do you think? Are seasons just words used to organized collections or should a collection be designed with a season and/or destination in mind? (Photos from style.com)

Overalls?

Does anyone else wish they still had their overalls from about 10 years ago. Looking at this shot from stylecaster.com, I know I do! I've only seen one pair in stores lately though, so any ideas on where to find them?

I was a big overall wearer when I was younger. When I was really small, my mom dressed me in Oshkosh and when I was a bit older I wore overall shorts all the time. Perhaps my next sewing project?

And I know I promised an outfir post, but the photos didn't turn out. Sometime this weekend though!

Christian Dior Resort 2011

If you're a follower of the blog, you know that Christian Dior is one of my favourite labels. That said, I was not entirely impressed with the resort 2011 collection. I felt it lacked the magic of previous Christian Dior shows. Maybe that has something to do with it being a resort collection, with less critique from large publications, but I was still a bit disappointed. While I was not thrilled with the show, there were still some pieces I'm in love with. I love the candy coloured gowns and I absolutely adore the striped top and skirt. What do you think? Chanel resort

So I wanted a do a quick review of the Chanel resort collection. To be honest, I wasn't overly impressed with the collection. I felt it had too many things going on, from caftans to crop tops to safari outfits. That said, Lagerfeld did put out some very pretty pieces. I'm completely in love with the plaid top. Definitely wishing that would appear in my closet! (Photos from style.com)

EyeStudio Makeup Look

I got some really kind comments complimenting my eyes in the last post, so I decided to do an little how-to. Plus, I'll be uploading this to facebook for a chance to win some cool prizes. Please vote for me and my look! Just find it in the list of looks.

To start this look, I (partially) covered my dark circles, but I didn't cover them fully because I wanted the look to stay natural. Then I used the Maybelline EyeStudio palate in 10 Mad for Mauve. I used the first pinky shade as a base and especially in the inner corners of my eyes to brighten them. Then I blended the medium pink shade on my eyelid. Next I used the skinnier end of the applicator to add some of the darker plum colour to the crease of my eyes. The green colour I used under my bottom lashes instead of eyeliner. Finally, I finished the look off with XXL PRO mascara in 24HR BOLD.

Just enjoyed the beautiful weekend, checked out lots of blogs and did some packing as we are moving at the end of the month. Yesterday I also stopped by the mall and got a few things at H&M. Springtime in Alberta

So, we have been a bit spoiled with good weather here in March, so now Mother Nature is getting us back in April. This picture was taken out of my back door at about 7 pm when I finally got home from work. April snow brings I don't know.

Here is my first makeup look using Maybelline EyeStudio. For this look I used the gel eyeliner in Eggplant, the XXL PRO mascara in Curl and the Colour Plush eyeshadow palatte in Taupe Temptress. I like the look, even though it's a lot more makeup than I usually wear. I really like the brush that comes with the eyeshadow palette because it has one end that works really good to apply smudgy eyeshadow along the lower lash line.

Today my Maybelline EyeStudio makeup arrived. I'm so excited! They've sent me a bunch of eyeshadows, mascaras and eye liners to test out and show off to you guys. EyeStudio is designed to give you the effect of a makeup artist, without actually having one. I'm super excited to try it out, so stay tuned for all of my experimental looks!

Sandra Freij Photography (and happy Easter)

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter. My nieces went out to my parents', so I joined them for the weekend to play with the little ones. We coloured eggs, went to Build-a-Bear (a very stressful place for me!) and went on a big Easter treasure hunt. My mom also made a big dinner on Friday and we ate ham sandwiches for the rest of the weekend. Last night the bf and I went to his mom's house for Easter dinner, which was absolutely delicous! I was very full after!

April Fashion Contest!

So I mentioned in my last post that I have something exciting to announce today: Pudding and Pie is hosting a contest! Plus, I plan on it happening every month! The idea is that I suggest a theme and you all submit outfit photos revolving around that theme. I'll give you two weeks to take your pictures and submit them to me by email. Then, I will choose my favourites and then the readers will vote through comments for their favourite. Voting will run for a week, then I will announce the winner! Of course, I wouldn't ask you to do all of this for nothing; there will be a prize for the winner! I eventually hope to have this monthly contest sponsored, but for now it is sponsored by me.

Alberta Fashion Week- Night 6

I'm sad to announce that this is the end of my coverage of ABFW. I was unhappy to no longer have amazing fashion shows to attend every night, but I am getting a lot more sleep this week (and I didn't even stay for any afterparties). The first show of the final night, Jason Matlo, was also my favourite of the evening. I loved the draped dresses and interesting ruffles. The colour palette consisted of black, grey and silver and the collection showcased lots of cinched waists and sparkles.

The second show of the evening, Chi Chi Cout ure by Holly Allen, was a lot more colourful than the first. With lots of jewel-toned jackets, feathers as fur, this collection was aimed at an older clientele, women between 35 and 55. The jewellery on the models was also designed by Holly Allen as part of her Chi Chi Couture line.

The evening (and week) closed with a menswear show by KaaDiki, designed by Haithem Elkadiki. There was a very strong military inspiration for this show. It's a bit harder for me to talk about menswear, since I don't know much about it, but there were some really cool pieces that keep boys from looking boring and alike. Plus if I had the money, I'd buy the blue vest for my boyfriend.

Also, tomorrow will be a very exciting day on Pudding and Pie; I'm holding a contest! You'll have to wait for tomorrow to find out what it is, but I'll tell you now that I'm super excited and there is even a prize for the winner! Stay tuned!

Alberta Fashion Week- Night 5

Sorry for the delay in posting, my bf has been hogging our bandwidth all week. Night 5 of ABFW was one of my favourites of the week. I love that there were 5 shows in one night, plus the deisgners were really great! The first show of the night was by Caitin Power. The collection was elegantly done in dark colours and touches of velvet. Emphasis was placed on shoulders and hips, but it ways that were still flattering.

The second show of the night, House of Nonie, was defintely a lot of fun. It opened with a group of dancers bustin' moves all over the runway, then morphed into a more traditional fashion show. The collection included velour, lots of gold accents and embraced the return of the shoulderpad.

The third collection of the night was a collaboration between Shelley Kanyo and Andy Court. This collection clearly referenced the old west, but was also inspired by Italian gondliers. I liked the prairie-style dress and there was some very interesting takes on menswear.

My favourite show of the nigt was Daleia Wearables by designer Kyle Nylund. The collection was beautiful and elegant, with a touch of whimsy and great patterns. Nylund does a lot of work in theatre and it came through in the dramatic quality of his garments.

The final show of the evening was by Jessica Halabi. Halabi described her collection as girlie and inspired by ballerinas. There was a lot of patent mixed with full skirts and delightful colours.

On the whole, the night was a lot of fun and I was very impressed with the designers' work.

Alberta Fashion Week- Night 4

Last night at Alberta Fashion Week was great. What an amazing group of shows! The first show of the night was Anji.K. From black lace tops to one long dangling earring, this show was really edgy of cool. That's one of the motifs I've seen from ABFW is the edgy style of fashion we have here in Alberta. I also enjoyed the variety of volumes in the show, with both fitted and billowy pieces.

The second show of the night, Defy Gravity, was super playful. The designer described the collection as "fun, freedom, movement, colour" and these were perfect adjectives! Lots of volume mixed with bandeua tops and amazing hair pieces!

The third show of the night, by NRT, was inspired by the Lady Gaga no pants trend. Lots of leg-less body suits and jackets with crazy long sleeves. Definitely high on the cool/innovation chart!

Pout, the fourth show of the night, was also very cool and edgy. The designer described her collection as "rock n roll" with black and pink making up the majority of the clothing. I love the jacket with short ruffle sleeves. More exposed midriffs in this show as well.

The final show of the night, Madame Wolf, was amazing. I loved the feathered headdress and fringe-y, Canadiana styles. The fur was a cool addition, though I'm not sure if it's real or fake. What an amazing finale to a great night of shows!

Alberta Fashion Week- Retail Night

Last night was retail night of Alberta Fashion Week, with a menswear show by Henry Singer, a womenswear show by Ooh La La boutique and a jewellery show. Unfortunately, I forgot to charge my camera battery, so it died partway through the second show, so the pictures are a bit limited.

I rarely cover menswear and don't know much about it at all, but here are my three favourite looks from the Henry Singer show. Let me tell you, the male models were a lot harder to photograph because they barely posed at the end of the runway! I like the tan suit look best of all, especially with the pocket square.

The boutique Ooh La La showcased a number of little black dresses, which a few coloured and graphic pieces through in for good measure. The blue dress is my favourite. Unfortunately, it was partway through this show that my camera battery died, so these pictures will have to suffice.

Alberta Fashion Week- Night 2

Night 2 was a big night at ABFW, with five shows taking place. The first show of the night, JenSa, was heavy on the sex appeal, with exposed midriff and corsetry throughout the show. A common motif throughout the show was large polka dots, which countered the sex appeal with a bit of the Minnie Mouse factor. The models seemed to have a lot of fun at the show, adjusting their walks to the feel of the presentation.

The second show of the night, Untainted, was a definite crowd pleaser. From the first look to the last, the pieces were very beautiful and polished. The designers Sarah Cameron and Elizabeth Hood stated soldiers as one of their inspirations, as is evident from the model in a military0style jacket and aviators. The main theme I got from this show was travel and jet set. While perhaps not always practical, I'd love to wear these pieces as I travel the world. I also enjoyed the addition of a large red flower motif and the final dress was definitely a show-stopper!

The Indian inspiration of the third show, Debbie Wilton, was palpable. The show opened with an amazing belly dance performance, which set the stage for exotically inspired collection. Belly dance chains adorned dresses and luxe golden fabrics walked the runway to great effect.

Wedding/bridal designer Ruby Ellen was the fourth show of the night. She showcased a couple of wedding dresses and a variety of bridesmaid dresses that proved the bride's not the only one who can look great at a wedding!

The final show of the evening was Emogene, by Michelle Barnes (who also happens to be my current fashion design teacher). Michelle stated that the collection was inspired by the everywoman and was meant to include what every woman needs in her closet. I enjoyed the mixing of neutrals like black grey with colours, including a red top peeking out from beneath a lacy white shirt and red floral pockets on a little black dress. An enjoyable and well received collection.

Alberta Fashion Week- Day 1

Opening night of Alberta Fashion Week was last night and it was so much fun! I spent most of it trying to get shots with my little point-and-shoot that were actually of the models and not of the photographer in front of me's head! That's why there's quite a few head shots of the models. That's all I could see! Luckily, a photographer was shooting studio-style shots off to the side after the runway shows, so I was able to take a bunch from that.

I can't resist putting up a few pictures of the venue. It used to be a bank and has some pretty lovely details.

The first show of the night was Lael Osness. This collection absolutely oozed 1940's glamour. From start to finish, this collection was composed of lady-like cuts and great tailoring. I loved the wideleg pants and the absolutely adorable hats. Not to mention the beautiful plaid dress!

The second show of the night was 442 McAdam, a line of handbags by Sarah Shell. What a theatrical and totally fun show! The inclusion of male models (one starting in the audience, then jumping onto the runway halfway through the show and dancing like a mad man) and the storyline carried through by the accompanying intimates made the show just that, an entertaining show! Not only that, but the bags were lovely too! There were some great crossbody bags that would be wonderful to carry to work and some adorable small chain-handle purses, as well as some stylish murses. The green and black palatte, punctuated with flashes of gold and purple was subtle, but gorgeous. A wonderful show overall! The last picture is of the first two designers; Lael Osness is in the yellow and Sarah Shell is in themulti-coloured skirt.

The third and final show of the night was also my favourite. Andrew Majtenyi's prints were absolutely gorgeous and clothing was so wearable and polished. I fell in love with the pink printed dress (the photo's not great, but it's the only one I had). There is a much better picture of it here. The pink and black dresses took my breathe away, they were so gorgeous! Besides pink and black, grey was a contant colour, with black on grey appliques dominating the second half of the show. These are pieces I would definitely purchase. A wonderful collection! Plus I ran into the designer, Andrew, at the coat check of the media reception and he was super nice! The pictures I've posted were my favourite outfits of the night. I'm working on putting all the photos onto flikr, but there is a lot of editting (read: cropping to remove other photographer's ears/hair/etc). Fashion Has No Borders

So today was Fashion Has No Borders. I have to say it didn't quite live up to my expectations. First of all, there were some pretty un-related booths. Like a fitness club, a chiropractor and some company that makes fancy maxi pads. I don't quite see the relationship there.

Secondly, there was a lot of hair booths (as well as the aforementioned random booths). While I understand that hair and makeup are important parts on the personal image industry, I definitely would have liked to see more actual clothes (jewellery was well-represented, but I think there are a lot more local jewellery designers than fashion designers).

Thirdly, who the heck doesn't let people take pictures at runway shows? I was standing at the side of the runway taking pictures of the runway show when some lady (dubbed the camera Nazi) came and said. "There are no cameras allowed. There was a sign at the front. We have choreographed photographers." To which I replied, "Sorry, I didn't see the sign." To which I should have replied, "Why not? I'm not interfering with anything. Plus I was planning on giving you free publicity on my blog."

On the bright side, I did get to see Jeanne Becker and got pictures of half a runway show. Here are the pictures I managed to capture of Beadeluxe Bijoux de Couture's collection entitled Amazon Queen (sorry to all the other exhibitors, blame the camera Nazi for the lack of coverage). The looks were very tribal and the designers quoted their inspiration as travel and diversity. The jewellery designs were very tribal influenced and were quite pretty statement necklaces. Sorry for the sub-par picture quality, I really need to invest in a SLR.

I was impressed with the diversity of the models. I know this was just a local fashion show and probably won't catch on in big fashion weeks, but I think it's a step in the right direction.

Instead of me having to go to far-off places in order of quench my thirst for fashion, for the next 8 days, fashion will be coming to me! Needless to say, I'm pretty excited.

To start things off, tomorrow is Fashion Has No Borders, a huge trade show. And guess who is supposed to be there! Canadian fashion legend Jeanne Beker! Is it too nerdy to ask for an autograph if I get the chance? I would probably get super star struck if I see her. I'll be meeting up with some fashionable ladies, so it should definitely be a good time. I am planning on posting up pictures and such tomorrow.

Then starting on Sunday is Alberta Fashion Week! This is actually the second installment of ABFW, but I was unable to attend the shows in the fall. That said, I am super excited to have gotten media accreditation for my blog! There will be tons of updates from those shows, as I am super excited!

On that note, I also want to thank the Calgary fashion industry. It may be small, but it's expanding and I've found it to be very supportive of my little blog. Anytime I've asked to attend an event (both ABFW and ArtWear), they've always agreed. I'm glad they are spreading the blogging love. All I have to do is ask!

Windy and Cold

That's exactly how I would describe today! It was so windy I just about blew away walking across the parking lot at work! And I was very glad I haven't stopped carrying my winter coat everywhere. It was a lot warmer at my house when I left for work and got home and took outfit pictures. I guess 20km makes a heck of a difference!

I finally splurged...

That's right, I finally splurged on a tripod! I've been meaning to get one for a while, and I finally got around to it yesterday. And, even better, I got it on the boxing day price, which was 57% off! Isn't it pretty?

As I now have a tripod, I decided to take outfit photos in a different spot: the green space near our house. I'm sure the neighbours looking out their windows thought I was strange, but that's fine. The forecast said it would be 19 C today (so warm), but it was only 12 C and cloudy (but I really shouldn't complain, since that's still grgeous for March). In celebration of spring coming a bit early, I wore my new Gap trench coat for the first time. I'm still so in love with it!

So I spend a fair bit of time this weekend dilly-dallying about on the internet and found some interesting stuff.

First of all, Amy Winehouse has decided to do a fashion line with Fred Perry. Here's a sketch from the collection. I'll wait and see the clothes before I pass any judgement, but I can't say I'm that excited. Amy Winehouse scares me. (Photo from wwd.com).

Second, I really love these adorable earmuffs from Josie Natori's Fall 2010 collection. I think I'll go scour some end of season sales for a pair of black earmuffs, then save them for next winter (Photo from wwd.com).

Lastly, here's today's outfit. I've had this skirt for probably 8 years and probably haven't worn it in about 4 as it's my 'formal black skirt.' But as I felt the need to shop my closet, I dressed it down with a super casual white tshirt and my leather jacket.

Sorry for so few updates lately. But I've been feeling a lot better lately, so that means a slow return of outfit posts. Yay! I have to work tomarrow since I've missed a bunch of work from being sick, so it's not going to be such a great weekend. And stupid daylights saving time. Worst idea ever! Oscars 2010

I'll be honest, I didn't watch the Oscars. Award shows generally bore me to tears, so I avoid them. Too many commercials, during which I leave and get busy doing something else and never end up watching them. Or fall asleep. Anyways, I still love to look at the red carpet dresses. First of all, I'm so glad Rachel McAdams wore that gorgeous Elie Saab dress. It was gorgeous! Miley Cyrus looked pretty good in my opinion. How old is she? I always think of her as being in junior high from watching Hannah Montana with my nieces. I really like Mo'Nique's dress; I like the colour and the style. See these and my other favourites below. Sorry for the break between posts, but things have been a bit busy for me lately and last night I meant to post, but I fell asleep. So two outfit pictures for you guys (and one not even taken in my usual spot)!

I have to say congratulations to Canada's Olympic Athletes! I heard we broke a record for most golds won by a host nation or something. Cool. And that men's hockey game for a nail-biter (not that I watched it, but I was walking past a bar when Crosby scored. Definately heard crazy cheering, even from outside.

My mom got me a couple of patterned tights last time she went shopping (since she know I love tights and they were like 70% off) and the weather was gorgeous this weekend, so I tried out both pairs.

The day after a sick day

Yesterday was a sick day for me. I got an infection and the doctor said I'd better stay home. So I chilled out and took a giant 3 hour nap and generally sat around feeling sorry for myself. Today I went to work since I was feeling mostly better and because I don't get sick days! I'm already going into work on Saturday to make up for yesterday (because I need the money)!

Today I dressed up a bit for work (although I didn't wear these shoes, since I have to wear steel-toes at work). I wore the same outfit about week ago (with different shoes), but oh well. It's my nice work outfit!

First of all, sorry again for being a little slow updating the blog and really slow getting to all of your lovely blogs. I'm working on it!

Second, last weekend I did some shopping at Superstore and decided to stop in to the clothing department. As usual, I found some cute things and many of them were marked down 50% or more (and since they're cheap to start with, they were next to nothing. I ended up getting two tops and a pair of shoes. Then on Thursday my mom can into town and we did some shopping again. I got a sweater, a jacket and a trench coat, so I am set. I actually need jeans, but no luck there. Sorry, I decided to take most of last weekend off (and I took yesterday off work, so it counts as part of the weekend for me). Anyway, I'm back. I've looked through only a small portion of the NYFW shoes and I've noticed a definate trend already: School Girl Style. Blame it on my Gossip Girl withdrawl, but I'm definately liking this trend. First, sorry for being a bad blogger the past few days. Secondly, happy Valentine's day everyone! I hope everyone's has been fun. Mine's been pretty laid back. Chilled out and stept in, went out for lunch (at A&W), went to the mall and bought extremely cheap cases of pop at Zellers, came home and chilled out some more, playing computer games and such. Oh, and the bf is making ribs. The should be done at like 2am. He runs on a weird schedule, that boy, but he is on reading week, so it doesn't really matter. Here was my outfit, nothing fancy, since V-day is not really a big deal in our house.

Happy Monday

Ugh, sometimes I hate Mondays. Tonight was my fashion design class, but I was an idiot and forgot all my stuff at home (I usually go straight from work). That would have been fine and I would have been on time if I hurried, but then I had to work 40 minutes late. And working 40 minuted late would have been fine, except I forgot all my stuff at home! So I ended up being 30 minutes late (since my house is completely in the wrong direction). It was ok in the end though, I don't think I missed too much. And a girl fainted! It was really scary! One minute she was standing there getting her pants fitted and the next she was lying on the floor! She was fine though in the end. Also, I think I have a good fit on my pants, which is exciting for the next portion: designing! (Up until now we have been drafting and draping). Anyway, here's my outfit from today. The sweater is one of the things I bought on Saturday and I love it! It kind of makes me feel like a sailor! I'm ready for spring though. I'm getting sick of my two pairs of boots.

Today I was super lazy. I did hardly anything until about seven pm, when I drove my bf to his work where he had about a half hour of stuff to do. Today I hung out with the bf, went out to lunch and Wendy's (a friend works there) and went to the mall. I bought a few things (which will be in upcoming outfit posts I'm sure) and actually got a few compliments from various salesgirls. One on the owl ring, one on my bag and a kind of all-over one when the girl said about genie pants that were coming in "You already have abunch of the funkier pieces to go with it. You'll be able to just throw it together." Which I took as a good compliment :)

Tacoless Tuesday

So I woke up this morning wondering why I'd set my alarm, since I was completely certain it was Saturday. Yikes! I was mighty disappointed when I realized it was really only Tuesday. Plus I had a super boring training at work for two and a half hours and now I'm freezing cold and have a serious craving for tacos! But I think I'll have an ultra-late dinner (the bf doesn't finish school until 9pm on Tuesday) of stirfry. Yummy! I took my camera to work and tried to snap some pictures on my lunch break (since I wanted outside pictures, but it's dark when I get home), but the spot I chose was on a road that was a lot busier than I though and I go a little embarrassed (especially when the guy you can see walking in the background looked at me funny). So I only took a few shots and the lighting is kind of bad since I didn't pay attention to where the sun was. Oh well.

Finally February

Well, it's finally February, the shortest month, and then on to March, which means the beginning of spring (even though nothing really grows here until April and we tend to get snowstorms in May, but that's besides the point)! Did anyone (or everyone) watch the Grammy's? I half-watched for a bit, then got bored with the slow pace and commericals (like I always do in awards shows) and stopped. But I just had to post this picture of Lady Gaga. I love her dress. It's avant garde while still being pretty. But her hair, not so much. The colour is all icky and reminds me of what happens when blonde girls colour on their hair with magic marker. Here's what I wore today (aren't I doing good about posting outfits) for work, so it's nothing fancy. And my battery died after only a couple shots, so no detail shots.
